Ribosomal protein L8 pseudogene 1 (RPL8P1) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein L8 gene. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences similar to known genes but generally nonfunctional due to disablements such as stop codons or frameshifts. RPL8P1 exists in the human genome as a result of retrotransposition activity but does not encode a functional protein. It can be misidentified as a functional gene due to sequence similarity, but it lacks an active role in ribosome assembly, protein synthesis, or disease association. It should not be considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or biomarker.
