The functional RPL9 protein is a component of the 60S subunit of the cytoplasmic ribosome and is involved in protein translation, but RPL9P5 does not contribute to ribosome structure or activity[1][5][3]. There are multiple processed pseudogenes of ribosomal protein genes present throughout the genome, and they are not considered therapeutic targets, nor are there drugs or biomarker applications associated with RPL9P5[1][6].
