There are multiple processed pseudogenes of ribosomal protein genes present throughout the genome, and they are not considered therapeutic targets, nor are there drugs or biomarker applications associated with RPL9P5[1][6]. RPL9P5 is not a therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor. No evidence at this time suggests RPL9P5 has regulatory roles or pathogenic involvement. The distinction between the functional ribosomal protein L9 (RPL9) and its pseudogenes is important; RPL9 is a bona fide ribosomal protein, while RPL9P5 is a non-functional pseudogene[1][5][3][6].
