Unlike the true ribosomal protein L9 gene (RPL9), which participates in ribosome structure and function and has relevance to diseases such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia, RPL9P9 does not encode a protein and does not participate in biochemical or disease processes. It should not be considered a therapeutic target and is only of limited relevance in studies of genomic organization, evolution, or pseudogene expression
