Overview

Ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P0 pseudogene 7 (RPLP0P7) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P0 (RPLP0). Pseudogenes like RPLP0P7 are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they do not encode an active protein or display any established biological activity. RPLP0P7 is not known to have any physiological or pathological role, is not considered a therapeutic target, and has no known drug interactions or validated use as a biomarker. It is part of the set of processed pseudogenes for ribosomal proteins scattered throughout the human genome. The functional gene (RPLP0, not RPLP0P7) encodes a protein involved in ribosome structure and function, which is relevant in biology and disease; however, RPLP0P7 itself is not protein-coding or an active target. If a therapeutic target is desired, the focus should be on the canonical protein-coding gene (RPLP0), not this pseudogene.
