Overview

RPLP0P9 (ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P0 pseudogene 9) is a non-coding, processed pseudogene in the human genome, closely related in sequence to the functional ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P0 (RPLP0). Like other pseudogenes, RPLP0P9 arises from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and has lost the ability to produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes can sometimes be transcribed and play regulatory roles in gene expression by functioning as non-coding RNAs—serving, for example, as competitive endogenous RNAs that sequester microRNAs or as precursors for small interfering RNAs (siRNAs). However, there is currently no direct evidence of such functions or of disease association for RPLP0P9 specifically. It is not considered a canonical drug target, and no drugs or therapeutic strategies are aimed at this pseudogene[1][8][4].
