Overview

RPLP1P5 is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P1 gene (RPLP1). Pseudogenes like RPLP1P5 are homologous DNA sequences to a functional gene but have lost their protein-coding potential due to disabling mutations, often including premature stop codons, frameshifts, and the absence of promoters. There is no evidence that RPLP1P5 encodes a functional protein or is involved in any canonical cellular functions, drug interactions, or serves as a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes can, in rare cases, regulate their parental genes at the RNA level by acting as miRNA decoys or by producing siRNAs, but there is no literature specifically implicating RPLP1P5 in such functions. The functional ribosomal protein P1 is important for ribosome activity, but RPLP1P5 itself is not part of the ribosomal machinery or its regulation. Therefore, RPLP1P5 is generally regarded as a non-functional genomic element and not of current biomedical or pharmacological interest.

Biological functions

Other (no known protein-encoding or direct biological function; pseudogenes can sometimes regulate related coding genes via RNA mechanisms)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease association; in general, some pseudogenes can influence disease if they act as competitive endogenous RNAs, but no such evidence is available for RPLP1P5 specifically)
