Overview

Ribosomal protein S10 pseudogene 3 (RPS10P3) is classified as a processed pseudogene, meaning it shares high sequence similarity with the protein-coding gene ribosomal protein S10 (RPS10), but does not encode a functional protein product. Pseudogenes such as RPS10P3 are generally considered non-functional genomic elements, remnants of once-functional genes that have lost the ability to be properly expressed or translated into proteins. They have no known direct role in biological function, disease association, or therapeutic intervention, and are not considered drug targets or biomarkers. Unlike the functional RPS10 gene, which encodes a critical component of the 40S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis and has clinical relevance (e.g., Diamond–Blackfan anemia), RPS10P3 lacks such biological and clinical importance. As a pseudogene, RPS10P3 is instead valuable for genomic studies of evolution and gene family expansion, but there is no current evidence implicating it in disease or therapy.
