Overview

Ribosomal protein S10 pseudogene 9 (RPS10P9) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome. It is a noncoding, inactive genomic sequence similar to the functional ribosomal protein S10 gene (RPS10); its presence in the genome is a hallmark of retrotranspositional events in evolution[2][6][10]. RPS10P9 is not believed to encode a functional protein, nor does it participate in biological pathways or disease processes. Pseudogenes are generally lineage-specific genomic elements without established molecular function, though a minority may have regulatory effects on other genes; no evidence currently supports such activity for RPS10P9[6][10].

Biological functions

None known (Pseudogenes like RPS10P9 typically lack known biological functions, though in rare cases a regulatory role is possible; this is not described for RPS10P9)
03

Disease associations

None known (No evidence links RPS10P9 to any diseases; the parent gene RPS10 mutations are causative in Diamond–Blackfan anemia, but not the pseudogene)
