Ribosomal protein S11 pseudogene 6 (RPS11P6) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein S11 gene, which encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit responsible for protein synthesis[1][5]. Like other pseudogenes, RPS11P6 is a non-functional genomic element that has sequence similarity to a protein-coding gene but lacks the ability to encode a functional protein[10]. Pseudogenes are common in the human genome and are not generally considered as therapeutic targets, do not produce proteins, and are not implicated in disease or drug interactions. - There are many processed pseudogenes of ribosomal protein genes such as RPS11 scattered throughout the genome[4][7]. - The gene ENSG00000243024 is not the functional ribosomal protein S11 gene (which is ENSG00000142534, encoding for the protein RPS11)[7], but rather one of its non-functional pseudogene copies[1]. - Pseudogenes may occasionally have regulatory or transcriptional activity, but this is rare and not usually therapeutically exploitable[10]. ENSG00000243024 (RPS11P6) does not conform to the criteria of a druggable or functional therapeutic target and returns null for most biological and pharmacological attributes.
