Overview

Ribosomal protein S12 pseudogene (ENSG00000270701) is a non-protein-coding genomic element resulting from retrotransposition of the functional RPS12 gene. Pseudogenes such as this lack coding capability due to disablements in their sequence, and do not produce functional proteins. While some processed pseudogenes are transcribed and can exert minor regulatory RNA effects, these are generally rare and not well characterized. This locus is not considered a therapeutic target, is not associated with direct disease involvement, and neither interacts with drugs nor serves as a clinical biomarker. It should not be mistaken for the canonical Ribosomal protein S12, which is a functional ribosomal protein in the 40S subunit involved in protein synthesis.

02

Mechanism of action

None (pseudogenes are not molecular targets for drugs)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins; possible minor regulatory RNA effects noted for some transcribed processed pseudogenes, but not established for this locus)
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease role; functional RPS12 gene, not pseudogenes, is associated with some disease phenotypes like hereditary motor neuronopathy and tuberculosis)
05

Safety considerations

None (not a therapeutic target; pseudogenes do not cause direct safety concerns in therapy)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no drugs target pseudogenes)
07

Biomarkers

None (pseudogenes are not used clinically as biomarkers)
