Ribosomal protein S12 pseudogene 14 (RPS12P14) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein S12 family. Pseudogenes such as RPS12P14 arise from duplication or retrotransposition events, but due to disruptive mutations, they do not encode functional proteins. In the genome, many processed pseudogenes of ribosomal proteins are annotated due to the high expression and ubiquitous requirement for ribosome function, but these pseudogenes lack biological activity or functional significance. Unlike the protein-coding RPS12 gene, which forms part of the small subunit of the ribosome, RPS12P14 is non-functional and not implicated as a molecular target for drugs, diagnostics, or disease studies[8][11][5]. In summary, RPS12P14 is a non-coding pseudogene, not a therapeutic target, and should not be confused with the protein-coding gene RPS12 or druggable ribosomal components.
