Overview

Ribosomal protein S12 pseudogene 15 (RPS12P15) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein S12 gene (RPS12). Pseudogenes are nonfunctional copies of protein-coding genes, resulting from gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and typically bear disablements (such as frameshifts or premature stop codons) that prevent them from encoding functional proteins. RPS12P15 does not produce a functional ribosomal protein and is classified as a non-coding RNA element. Pseudogenes can sometimes regulate gene expression via competing endogenous RNA mechanisms or by serving as sources of regulatory RNAs, and recent research suggests some pseudogenes may be correlated with tumor prognosis or the immune microenvironment in cancer, although RPS12P15 itself has not been specifically implicated in such roles. RPS12P15 is not considered a druggable target, receptor, or conventional biomolecule target in pharmacology or therapeutics.
