Ribosomal protein S12 pseudogene 25 (RPS12P25) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the functional ribosomal protein S12 gene[1][9][11]. Unlike the parent ribosomal protein S12 gene, which encodes an essential component of the ribosome involved in protein synthesis and fidelity of mRNA decoding[4][7][13], RPS12P25 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes are considered defunct copies, typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition followed by loss of coding potential[6]. While most pseudogenes are transcriptionally inactive, some—in rare cases—can be transcribed and may influence the regulation of their parent genes, but there is no evidence supporting a functional role or therapeutic relevance for RPS12P25 in humans[6][1][11]. In summary, RPS12P25 is a non-functional pseudogene and not a genuine molecular target.
