Ribosomal protein S12 pseudogene 4 (RPS12P4) is a non-coding pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S12 gene. Like other ribosomal protein pseudogenes, RPS12P4 does not participate in protein synthesis and lacks functional protein-coding capability. It is present in the genome as a relic of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and is annotated as a processed pseudogene; it does not produce functional protein in humans or model organisms. RPS12P4 should not be confused with the protein-coding genes RPS12 (ribosomal protein S12) or MRPS12 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S12), which are involved in the structural and functional assembly of ribosomes[1][7][9].
