Overview

Ribosomal protein S12 pseudogene 6 (RPS12P6) is a human processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein S12 gene (RPS12)[6][2]. Pseudogenes such as RPS12P6 arise through retrotransposition or duplication events and typically lack the necessary sequences to encode functional proteins, resulting in genetic elements that are not translated and are generally considered biologically inactive[11]. There is no evidence that RPS12P6 encodes a protein or plays a direct role in human cellular physiology or pathology; it is not recognized as a therapeutic or drug target[11][6]. While the parent gene RPS12 is relevant in protein synthesis and has been associated with tumorigenesis through increased expression in some cancers[1][3][5], RPS12P6 itself is a non-coding pseudogene. If the biological significance or targeting of ribosomal protein S12 is of interest, the canonical functional entity would be "Ribosomal protein S12" (RPS12), not this pseudogene.
