Overview

Ribosomal protein S12 pseudogene 7 (RPS12P7) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S12 gene (RPS12), which itself encodes a component of the eukaryotic 40S ribosomal small subunit[1][3][7]. Pseudogenes such as RPS12P7 are sequence copies generated by retrotransposition and have lost their protein-coding ability due to accumulated disabling mutations or sequence decay[7]. They do not produce functional proteins and, as such, are not considered therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or transporters. There is no evidence supporting a direct biological function, disease association, drug interaction, or clinical biomarker utility for RPS12P7[7]. Most references to ribosomal protein S12 pseudogenes note their role as genomic elements with no known protein product or therapeutic relevance.
