Overview

RPS15P5 (ribosomal protein S15 pseudogene 5) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the ribosomal protein S15 gene. Unlike the functional RPS15 gene, which encodes a component of the small 40S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis[4][7], RPS15P5 does not produce a protein and has no known biological function or disease role[2][8]. Pseudogenes such as RPS15P5 exist due to ancestral duplication and mutation events but are considered nonfunctional remnants within the genome; they are not recognized as therapeutic targets or as valid candidates for drug interaction, biomarker development, or safety concern analysis[2][8][11].
