Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 1 (RPS15AP1)

Target
RPS15AP1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene

Overview

Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 1 (RPS15AP1) is a processed pseudogene corresponding to the ribosomal protein S15a gene. Unlike the functional gene RPS15A, which encodes a component of the ribosomal 40S subunit responsible for protein synthesis, RPS15AP1 does not encode a functional protein and is not involved in normal biological or disease processes[2][7][9][10]. Pseudogenes like RPS15AP1 generally arise from the duplication or retrotransposition of functional genes and typically lack the ability to produce active protein products. There are no known direct biological functions, therapeutic applications, or disease associations specific to RPS15AP1.
