Overview

Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 11 (RPS15AP11) is a non-functional genomic element classified as a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein S15a gene family[1][5]. Pseudogenes like RPS15AP11 are remnants of functional genes that have lost their protein-coding potential through mutation or duplication events. While RPS15AP11 does not produce a protein, transcripts have been suggested to act as competitive endogenous RNAs in certain immune cell types by binding microRNAs, thereby potentially influencing post-transcriptional regulation[4]. No direct protein function, molecular activity, or clinical targeting is attributed to RPS15AP11. Ribosomal protein S15a, by contrast, is a structural protein in the ribosome's 40S subunit, playing roles in protein synthesis, cell cycle, and viral responses[3][8][9], but these functions do NOT apply to RPS15AP11.

Biological functions

Other (no known function as a protein; however, it may act as a competitive endogenous RNA in immune cells by sequestering microRNAs)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct disease association; ribosomal protein S15a itself participates in cell cycle regulation and response to virus, but RPS15AP11 does not encode a functional protein)
