Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 13 (RPS15AP13) is a non-coding sequence in the human genome related by sequence homology to the functional ribosomal protein S15a gene (RPS15A), which is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit involved in protein biosynthesis[3][4][5]. RPS15AP13, however, is classified as a processed pseudogene, meaning it does not code for a functional protein and has no known direct role in biological processes or disease, nor does it serve as a drug target or therapeutic biomarker[3][4][5]. There are multiple processed pseudogenes similar to RPS15A found throughout the human genome; these typically do not yield functional products[4]. Pseudogenes typically do not have direct biological functions; however, some may have regulatory RNA roles, but no evidence supports this for RPS15AP13[3]. If your interest is in the functional protein, refer to Ribosomal protein S15a (RPS15A), which is involved in mRNA translation and associated with some anemias[5][7]. RPS15AP13 is not interchangeable with the functional gene. No evidence indicates that RPS15AP13 has a role in disease, therapeutic intervention, or clinical decision-making. RPS15AP13 is a pseudogene and not a molecular target for drugs or therapeutic intervention. For clinical or therapeutic purposes, focus should be on the parent gene RPS15A if relevant[3][4][5].
