Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 24 is a processed pseudogene derived from its parent gene encoding the ribosomal protein S15a, which is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Processed pseudogenes arise by reverse transcription and genomic integration of mRNA, lacking protein-coding ability but sometimes transcribed into noncoding RNA. Such pseudogenes are usually considered non-functional “genomic fossils,” but a minority can affect gene regulation through RNA interference, microRNA decoy functions, or modulating messenger RNA stability. RPS15AP24 has no evidence for protein expression or direct biological role beyond the potential as noncoding RNA; it is not regarded as a therapeutic target or biomarker, and no safety issues are associated with its presence. Note: - The parent, ribosomal protein S15a (RPS15A), encodes an essential ribosomal 40S subunit protein, but RPS15AP24 itself does not have a protein-coding or receptor function. - Pseudogenes like RPS15AP24 are abundant in the human genome, particularly for ribosomal protein genes. No direct involvement in disease, pharmacology, or clinical diagnostics is currently documented for this locus.
