Overview

Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 3 (RPS15AP3) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, related to the parent ribosomal protein S15a (RPS15A) gene. Pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins and are generally considered to have no known biological function or direct involvement in disease. RPS15AP3 is cataloged in major databases as a pseudogene, not as a therapeutic or diagnostic target. RPS15AP3 should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein S15a gene (RPS15A), which is a structural constituent of the ribosome and is associated with certain diseases (e.g., Diamond-Blackfan anemia) through disruptions in its function. There is no evidence in the cited literature indicating that RPS15AP3 plays a direct biological, clinical, or therapeutic role.
