Overview

Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 30 (RPS15AP30) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S15a gene family. Pseudogenes are non-functional segments of DNA that arise from previously functional genes, typically through gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and acquire mutations that prevent them from encoding functional proteins. RPS15AP30 does not encode a functional protein or act as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or conventional therapeutic target. Ribosomal protein pseudogenes in general can have regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as microRNA sponges or interfering with the expression of parental genes, but there is currently no evidence that RPS15AP30 specifically has such a function. It has no known disease associations, functional protein product, biomarker status, or safety concerns[1][5][7][8][9]. Notes on ambiguity: - RPS15AP30 is not a protein-coding gene, not a receptor, nor a classical drug target. - It is not misspelled according to standard gene databases, but since it is a pseudogene, it should not be considered a traditional therapeutic target[1][7][8][9].

Biological functions

Null (no known protein-coding or biological function; potential gene regulation as a pseudogene)
