Ribosomal protein S15a pseudogene 6 is classified as a pseudogene, a segment of DNA similar to a gene but generally non-functional due to mutations[1][8]. RPS15AP6 does not encode a protein and does not participate in cellular biological functions or pathways. There is no established role for this pseudogene in diseases, nor is it known to be involved in drug interactions, biomarker development, or as a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes can play a role in genome evolution or act as regulatory RNA in rare cases, but for RPS15AP6 there are no known functional or clinical roles described to date[1][8][9]. The functional gene, RPS15A, encodes a cytoplasmic component of the 40S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis and erythropoiesis[4][7]. However, RPS15AP6 is simply one of many processed pseudogenes for this gene found in the genome, lacking transcriptional or translational activity[1].
