Overview

Ribosomal protein S16 pseudogene 3 (RPS16P3) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S16 gene. Pseudogenes are non-functional sequences in the genome that resemble known genes but lack the ability to code for a protein, often due to accumulated mutations or the absence of regulatory elements needed for expression. RPS16P3 does not encode a functional protein and does not participate in canonical biological or disease pathways. Its presence in the genome is typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, as these often have multiple processed pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome.
