Ribosomal protein S16 pseudogene 9 is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the ribosomal protein S16 gene (RPS16). Processed pseudogenes are non-functional DNA sequences, typically arising from retrotransposition of mRNA from protein-coding parent genes, and lack the intronic structure and most regulatory sequences of their parent[5][6]. RPS16P9 is not transcribed into a functional protein and is not involved in ribosomal assembly, RNA binding, or protein synthesis. Unlike its functional counterpart (RPS16), RPS16P9 has no established role in biology or disease and is not considered a target for therapeutic intervention[3][5][6].
