Ribosomal protein S17 pseudogene 10 (RPS17P10) is a processed pseudogene of the ribosomal protein S17 gene. Pseudogenes such as RPS17P10 are non-functional segments of DNA that arise from duplication or retrotransposition of protein-coding genes; they do not encode functional proteins and are typically dispersed throughout the genome[2][4][8]. The functional RPS17 gene is a structural constituent of the ribosomal 40S subunit and participates in protein synthesis, but RPS17P10 itself does not contribute to ribosome assembly, cellular function, or disease biology. Pseudogenes like RPS17P10 are not classified as receptors, enzymes, or therapeutic targets, and they are not associated with drug interactions, mechanism of action, or clinical safety issues.
