Overview

Ribosomal protein S17 pseudogene 13 (RPS17P13) is one of several processed pseudogenes derived from the functional RPS17 gene, which encodes a structural protein of the small 40S ribosomal subunit. RPS17P13 does not produce a functional protein and has no established biological or therapeutic role. While the functional RPS17 is essential for ribosome assembly and protein synthesis—and mutations in RPS17 can cause Diamond-Blackfan anemia—RPS17P13, like most ribosomal protein pseudogenes, is likely non-functional and is not a recognized therapeutic target[2][6][7][9].
