ribosomal protein S17 pseudogene 14 (RPS17P14) is a non-coding processed pseudogene in humans. It arises from duplication and genomic dispersion of the functional ribosomal protein S17 gene (RPS17), which codes for a component of the cytoplasmic 40S ribosomal subunit. Unlike RPS17, RPS17P14 does not code for an active protein, is not expressed, and has no known biological or disease relevance. Multiple pseudogenes of ribosomal proteins exist throughout the genome, and their annotation can lead to confusion when extracting gene lists or drug targets; however, pseudogenes like RPS17P14 are not considered therapeutic or functional molecular targets[2][5].
