Ribosomal protein S17 pseudogene 15 (RPS17P15) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome. It is one of multiple pseudogene copies generated via retrotransposition of the parental ribosomal protein S17 (RPS17) gene. Unlike the functional RPS17 gene, which encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit essential for protein synthesis, RPS17P15 does not code for a functional protein. Pseudogenes like RPS17P15 generally do not produce active proteins and have no known biological or disease-associated function. There is no evidence to suggest that RPS17P15 is involved in disease, acts as a drug target, or is used as a biomarker. The parent gene RPS17, but not its pseudogenes, is associated with disorders like Diamond-Blackfan anemia. RPS17P15 is a pseudogene—not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other classical therapeutic target, and it has no known functional role or relevance as a drug or biomarker target in clinical or research settings.
