Ribosomal protein S19 pseudogene 1 (RPS19P1) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein S19 gene (RPS19). Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that are similar to functional genes but have been rendered non-functional due to mutations or other genomic changes, and do not produce functional proteins. RPS19P1 does not encode an active protein and does not play a role in normal cell biology or disease. Although functional RPS19 is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit and is important in ribosome biogenesis and certain diseases such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia, RPS19P1 does not share these roles. There is no evidence to support the involvement of RPS19P1 in any drug interactions, disease mechanisms, or as a therapeutic target[1][2][8].
