RPS2P25 is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S2 (RPS2) gene. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but generally lack the ability to encode functional proteins due to disabling mutations, truncations, or lack of regulatory elements[9][6][8]. Pseudogenes such as RPS2P25 serve as remnants of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are largely considered nonfunctional in protein coding. While most pseudogenes do not have biological activity, a minority may be transcribed and exert regulatory roles (such as acting as microRNA sponges or influencing gene expression), but there is no evidence that RPS2P25 has functional activity or disease association in current biomedical literature[7][9]. RPS2P25 represents a nonfunctional pseudogene and should not be confused with the functional ribosomal protein S2 (RPS2). It is not a conventional therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme and has no known drug interactions or clinical biomarker relevance. If your interest is in ribosomal protein S2 itself, reference the RPS2 gene rather than the pseudogene RPS2P25[4][6][9].
