Overview

Ribosomal protein S2 pseudogene 32 (RPS2P32) is part of a large family of processed pseudogenes related to ribosomal protein genes in the human genome. These pseudogenes share high sequence similarity with their functional counterparts (such as RPS2, which encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit essential for protein synthesis), but RPS2P32 does not encode a functional protein. The creation and genomic scattering of ribosomal protein pseudogenes is common, with hundreds identified throughout the human genome, arising mainly from retrotransposition events. While some pseudogenes display evidence of transcription or play regulatory roles in rare cases, there is no evidence that RPS2P32 has such function. It is not a therapeutic target, lacks known associations with disease or drug interaction, and holds no established clinical or biological significance.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; not a drug target

03

Biological functions

No known biological function; pseudogenes are generally considered non-coding and non-functional, though rare exceptions exist where some pseudogenes are transcribed or have regulatory roles
04

Disease associations

No direct disease association for RPS2P32; some ribosomal protein pseudogenes may be differentially expressed in disease contexts, but specific data for RPS2P32 is not found
