Ribosomal protein S20 pseudogene 24 (RPS20P24)

Target
RPS20P24
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; related to ribosomal protein gene family)
01

Overview

Ribosomal protein S20 pseudogene 24 (RPS20P24) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome, related to the functional ribosomal protein S20 gene. Unlike its parent gene RPS20, which encodes a protein component of the small 40S ribosomal subunit essential for protein synthesis, RPS20P24 does not produce a functional protein and has no known biological or pharmacological roles. Pseudogenes are generally considered genomic remnants without direct cellular function, although rare exceptions exist where pseudogene transcripts may have regulatory roles. There are multiple RPS20 pseudogenes scattered throughout the genome, but RPS20P24 itself is not implicated in disease or targeted by drugs

02
