Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ribosomal protein S20 pseudogene 4 (RPS20P4) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S20 gene. Unlike active protein-coding genes, pseudogenes such as RPS20P4 do not encode functional proteins and generally lack biological activity. The canonical RPS20 gene encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit that is essential for ribosome assembly and protein synthesis. Multiple processed pseudogenes of RPS20 exist in the genome, typically dispersed and not transcribed or functional.
