Ribosomal protein S20 pseudogene 5 (RPS20P5) is a processed pseudogene related to the functional ribosomal protein S20 (RPS20) gene in humans. Unlike protein-coding genes, RPS20P5 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes such as RPS20P5 arise due to gene duplication or retrotransposition events, and subsequent loss of protein-coding ability through mutations. There is no evidence that RPS20P5 is a therapeutic target, nor is it involved in disease processes, biological pathways, or drug interactions[4][7]. Unlike the functional RPS20 gene, which encodes a protein constituent of the small (40S) ribosomal subunit important for protein synthesis[5][8], RPS20P5 is a noncoding pseudogene and has no documented functional role in the cell. The listing of RPS20P5 as a target is likely a misunderstanding, as most scientific resources classify it only as a pseudogene and not a druggable or disease-related gene[4][7]. The gene does not appear in therapeutic target databases or among targets with known small-molecule or biologic interactions.
