Ribosomal protein S20 pseudogene 9 (RPS20P9) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome corresponding to the ribosomal protein S20 gene (RPS20). As a pseudogene, RPS20P9 does not encode a functional protein and is considered non-coding. It does not have a known direct biological function, disease association, or therapeutic relevance. Pseudogenes like RPS20P9 arise from duplication or retrotransposition of functional ribosomal protein genes and generally accumulate disabling mutations, preventing the production of active protein. RPS20P9 is one of many ribosomal protein pseudogenes distributed throughout the genome[2][5][7][8]. Notes: - RPS20 is the functional gene encoding a component of the small (40S) ribosomal subunit; RPS20P9 is a non-functional pseudogene equivalent[4][1][5]. - Pseudogenes are not considered valid therapeutic targets since they do not produce active proteins and lack biological activity in normal or disease biology[2][5]. - The presence of "pseudogene" in the name indicates that this entry is not a traditional protein, enzyme, receptor, transporter, or known biomarker, and is typically excluded from drug discovery or target validation efforts[2][5][7].
