Ribosomal protein S23 pseudogene 3 (RPS23P3) is a genomic sequence in humans classified as a processed pseudogene of the RPS23 gene, which encodes a protein component of the small 40S subunit of the ribosome. Like other processed pseudogenes of ribosomal protein genes, RPS23P3 does not produce a functional protein product and has no known physiological or pharmacological significance. Multiple pseudogenes exist in the human genome for ribosomal proteins, and they are generally non-functional relics arising from historical duplication or retroposition events. There is no evidence that RPS23P3 has a role in disease, cellular pathways, or drug interactions.
