Ribosomal protein S23 pseudogene 5 (RPS23P5) is a processed pseudogene derived from the ribosomal protein S23 gene, present in the human genome[1][2][3][8]. Pseudogenes like RPS23P5 are non-functional sequences that originate from once-functional protein-coding genes, here specifically from RPS23, by processes such as retrotransposition[8][9]. They typically do not encode functional proteins and do not participate in known molecular or signaling pathways, nor serve as direct therapeutic targets. There are no known disease associations or biological functions directly attributed to RPS23P5, and pseudogenes generally lack interacting drugs or utility as biomarkers. RPS23P5 is one of many ribosomal protein pseudogenes dispersed throughout the human genome and is not considered a bona fide therapeutic target[2][8][9].
