Ribosomal protein S24 pseudogene refers to a non-functional genomic DNA sequence that is related in sequence to the functional ribosomal protein S24 gene (RPS24), but does not encode a functional protein product. These pseudogenes are the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are typically transcriptionally inactive. They are widespread throughout the genome, including in humans, where numerous RPS24 pseudogenes exist with similar designations (e.g., RPS24P1, RPS24P2, etc.) but do not have known biological or disease relevance[2][4][5]. ENSG00000255253 corresponds to such a ribosomal protein S24 pseudogene. Pseudogenes as a class are not considered therapeutic targets, and have no canonical molecular function or clinical biomarker or drug-interaction relevance.
