Ribosomal protein S25 pseudogene 4 (RPS25P4)

Target
RPS25P4
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene — processed pseudogene of ribosomal protein family)
01

Overview

Ribosomal protein S25 pseudogene 4 is a processed, nonfunctional copy of the ribosomal protein S25 gene, found in the human genome. Like other pseudogenes, RPS25P4 does not encode a protein and does not have a known biological function. The parental RPS25 gene encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis, but pseudogenes like RPS25P4 are generally inactive. The parental gene, RPS25, encodes a ribosomal protein part of the 40S ribosomal subunit and is involved in protein synthesis and specialized translation, with established disease roles and protein interactions. This does not apply to RPS25P4, which should not be confused with the parental gene.

02

Mechanism of action

None (no mechanisms of action, as it does not produce functional protein)

03

Biological functions

None (does not have biological function; pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional remnants of genes)
04

Disease associations

None (not known to confer disease roles; ribosomal protein S25, the parental gene, may have disease associations, but the pseudogene does not)
05

Safety considerations

None (not a therapeutic target, so not relevant for safety concerns)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no drugs interact with RPS25P4; drug interactions apply only to active proteins)
07

Biomarkers

None (not used as a biomarker for patient selection or efficacy)
