Ribosomal protein S26 pseudogenes are non-coding genomic sequences that resemble the functional RPS26 gene but typically do not produce functional protein products. The authentic RPS26 encodes a structural component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, but pseudogenes such as ENSG00000233778 are considered evolutionary remnants with no known protein-coding or regulatory function. These pseudogenes are numerous in the human genome and are not considered therapeutic targets, receptors, enzymes, or functional molecules for drug interaction or disease association[1][3][6][8].
