Ribosomal protein S26 pseudogene 19 (RPS26P19) is classified as a processed pseudogene—non-protein-coding DNA sequence derived from the functional parent gene for 40S ribosomal protein S26 (RPS26)[9]. Pseudogenes such as RPS26P19 are typically not transcribed into functional proteins and are not known to play an established biological role or serve as drug targets. The parent gene, RPS26, encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, and mutations in the functional RPS26 gene are implicated in disorders such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia[1][7]. However, RPS26P19 itself does not encode a protein and has no known involvement in disease, drug response, or cellular pathways[9]. RPS26P19 is not a therapeutic target. It is a pseudogene (inactive gene copy). Only the functional RPS26 gene product (40S ribosomal protein S26) is biologically active and clinically relevant[1][7][9]. Many ribosomal protein genes have multiple pseudogenes, such as RPS26P19, scattered throughout the genome[3][9]. These pseudogenes are sometimes annotated in gene databases but are distinct from true drug targets, enzymes, receptors, or disease genes[9].
