Ribosomal protein S26 pseudogene 31 (RPS26P31) is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional RPS26 gene, which encodes a ribosomal protein involved in the 40S ribosomal subunit and is essential in protein synthesis. Pseudogenes like RPS26P31 are generally nonfunctional copies or remnants of genes that have accumulated disabling mutations and do not produce functional protein. While the parent RPS26 protein is implicated in diseases such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia, RPS26P31 has no established biological activity or disease association and is not targeted in drug development.
