Ribosomal protein S26 pseudogene 34 (RPS26P34) is a processed pseudogene related to the ribosomal protein S26 gene (RPS26). Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble known genes but are classified as nonfunctional due to mutations, truncations, or other disabling features. RPS26P34 does not code for a functional protein and is not implicated in cellular processes or human disease. The functional RPS26 gene, in contrast, encodes a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit that is essential for protein synthesis and is associated with Diamond-Blackfan anemia when mutated. The designation "pseudogene" indicates that RPS26P34 is not a valid therapeutic target and lacks biological or pharmacological relevance.
