Ribosomal protein S26 pseudogene 45 (RPS26P45) is a processed pseudogene derived from the functional RPS26 gene, which encodes a structural component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. RPS26P45 does not encode a functional protein and is not involved in ribosomal function or protein synthesis. Like many ribosomal protein pseudogenes in the human genome, it results from historical retrotranspositional events and does not have an assigned biological or disease-related role. RPS26P45 serves primarily as a genomic marker with utility for evolutionary and genomic studies, but it is not considered a valid pharmacological or therapeutic target.
