01

Overview

Ribosomal protein S26 pseudogene 58 (RPS26P58) is a non-functional genetic sequence similar to the ribosomal protein S26 gene, present in the human genome as a result of gene duplication and retrotransposition events. Pseudogenes like RPS26P58 do not encode functional proteins and generally have no well-characterized biological activity or direct disease relevance. The functional gene, ribosomal protein S26 (RPS26), codes for a structural component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, involved in protein synthesis and implicated in Diamond-Blackfan anemia when mutated[3][4][5][6]. RPS26P58 is among several dispersed pseudogenes of RPS26 and is not considered a therapeutic target or biomarker.

02

Mechanism of action

None (Not applicable for pseudogenes which do not produce protein)

03

Biological functions

Other (None; no known biological function as it is a pseudogene)Functional biological roles pertain only to the active RPS26 gene
04

Disease associations

Other (None for RPS26P58; see below for RPS26 disease relevance)Pseudogenes generally do not have direct disease roles, but mutations in the functional RPS26 gene cause Diamond-Blackfan anemia
05

Safety considerations

None (No safety or therapeutic concerns noted for pseudogenes)
06

Interacting drugs

None (No drugs interact with RPS26P58; no data for pseudogene-specific drugs)
07

Biomarkers

None (Pseudogene-specific sequences may be used in genomics, but not as clinical biomarkers for patient selection or efficacy monitoring)
