Ribosomal protein S26 pseudogene 58 (RPS26P58) is a non-functional genetic sequence similar to the ribosomal protein S26 gene, present in the human genome as a result of gene duplication and retrotransposition events. Pseudogenes like RPS26P58 do not encode functional proteins and generally have no well-characterized biological activity or direct disease relevance. The functional gene, ribosomal protein S26 (RPS26), codes for a structural component of the 40S ribosomal subunit, involved in protein synthesis and implicated in Diamond-Blackfan anemia when mutated[3][4][5][6]. RPS26P58 is among several dispersed pseudogenes of RPS26 and is not considered a therapeutic target or biomarker.
