Overview

Ribosomal protein S27-like pseudogene (ENSG00000232622) is a nonfunctional genomic DNA segment that closely resembles the gene encoding ribosomal protein S27-like (RPS27L), but typically contains mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons precluding translation into a functional protein[1][2][5][8]. As a pseudogene, it generally does not code for a protein and does not serve as a therapeutic or pharmacological target. Pseudogenes may sometimes have regulatory RNA activity or contribute to the control of gene networks, but in most cases, including this one, there is no clear evidence supporting a direct biological function or disease association[2][8]. The HGNC defines pseudogenes as nonfunctional copies of genes incapable of producing a functional protein product but with significant sequence homology to an active gene[5]. No aliases beyond variations of its full name and gene symbol are in common usage[1]. This pseudogene is not a canonical druggable target, and therefore drugs, biomarker roles, and safety concerns are not applicable.
