Ribosomal protein S27 pseudogene 13 (RPS27P13) is classified as a processed pseudogene, which is a region of DNA resembling the ribosomal protein S27 (RPS27) gene but lacking the ability to encode a functional protein[4][7][8]. Pseudogenes such as RPS27P13 are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition and are generally considered nonfunctional; they do not contribute to ribosome assembly or protein synthesis. There are no known therapeutic, diagnostic, or disease roles for this specific pseudogene. The functional parent gene, ribosomal protein S27 (RPS27), is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit and involved in protein synthesis[1], but this pseudogene does not participate in these cellular activities.
