Ribosomal protein S27 pseudogene 30 (RPS27P30) is a processed pseudogene. It is related to the ribosomal protein S27 gene (RPS27), which encodes a small ribosomal subunit protein involved in protein synthesis. However, RPS27P30 itself does not produce a functional protein and has no known biological function or disease association. There is no evidence that RPS27P30 is a therapeutic target, nor are there drugs or mechanisms of action related to it. The functional, protein-coding version is RPS27, not RPS27P30[1]. RPS27P30 is classified as a pseudogene; it does not encode a functional protein[1]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to known genes but nonfunctional; often they arise due to duplication or retrotransposition. The protein-coding gene RPS27 encodes the ribosomal protein S27, a component of the 40S small ribosomal subunit involved in protein synthesis and has proposed roles in oncogenesis and cell growth[2][3][5]. RPS27P30 should not be confused with RPS27 or its paralog RPS27L, both of which are functionally relevant ribosomal proteins[2][5][7]. Since RPS27P30 is not a receptor, enzyme, or any traditional therapeutic target, it is not associated with any drugs, mechanisms of action, or biomarker roles. RPS27P30 is a nonfunctional pseudogene, not a protein target, and is not considered therapeutically relevant. The therapeutic and functional roles pertain to its parent gene, RPS27, not to the pseudogene itself[1].
